Viscaria oculata - Blue Pearl

Scatter a little blue-sky magic through the garden with Viscaria oculata ‘Blue Pearl’! From spring into summer, fine, freely branching stems shimmer with clear lavender-blue flowers that seem to hover above the narrow green foliage. Airy, luminous, and wonderfully graceful, this uncommon annual has the enchanting presence of a wildflower meadow distilled into one beautifully mannered plant. Its delicate-looking display softens bold neighbors, slips color into small spaces, and brings that effortless, slightly romantic cottage-garden feeling wherever it grows.

‘Blue Pearl’ forms a light, branching plant about 18–24 inches tall and wide—substantial enough to make a show, yet never visually heavy. Tuck it along paths, scatter it through sunny borders, or let it spill informally among fuller flowers in containers and cutting gardens. The slender stems and floating blue blooms are also exquisite in small bouquets, where they add movement and breathing room between larger blossoms.

Give it full sun, fertile well-drained soil, and regular water without keeping the roots soggy. Removing faded flowers helps keep the display fresh, while leaving a few seedheads to mature may invite this charming annual to return in a pleasingly informal way.
