The scarab beetle symbolizes the sun because the ancient Egyptians saw the resemblance between the beetle rolling the dung and the sun god rolling the sun to make it shine on Earth. Dung beetles roll dung into a ball as food and as a brooding room for laying eggs. Therefore, scarabs are regarded as a symbol of regeneration. In ancient Egyptian religion, Scarab is also a symbol of immortality, resurrection, transformation and protection, and is widely used in funeral art.
