Variegated Liriope

Variegated Liriope is a dependable evergreen groundcover that brings clean texture, bright foliage, and seasonal color to the landscape. Known botanically as Liriope muscari ‘Variegata’, this tough, grass-like perennial forms dense clumps of green foliage striped with creamy yellow, creating a polished look along walkways, garden beds, and shaded borders.

Often called variegated monkey grass, this adaptable liriope plant is a favorite for edging and mass plantings because it delivers structure without demanding constant attention. Its narrow, arching leaves give it a liriope-like appearance, while its tidy clumping habit makes it easier to manage than spreading groundcovers.

In late summer, upright purple flower spikes rise above the foliage, adding soft seasonal color before giving way to dark berry-like fruit. These blooms make Variegated Liriope especially useful in grass borders, foundation beds, sidewalk edges, and mixed plantings where you want year-round foliage with a late-season flower display.

This versatile groundcover grass thrives in a wide range of conditions, including sun, part shade, dry soil, and poor soil once established. Use Liriope variegata to line pathways, define flower beds, fill open spaces beneath shrubs, or create a low-maintenance border with bright evergreen texture.
