The Irish Wolfhound is the mighty symbol of Celtic splendor, and here three chase endlessly around in a circle, biting each others' tails. The tallest of dogs, they are known to be gentle when stroked, fierce when provoked. This fine zoomorphic pattern is derived from a tiny illumination in the Book of Kells, on the folio 29 recto page, that shows three animals in a running wheel. It is here changed to look more like Irish Wolfhounds.
