Description
Like ballerinas in slow motion, these elegant flowers rise on arched stalks, sweep back their petals, then peer at their skirt of pewter-patterned leaves. Mini Cyclamen are one of winter's highlights we wouldn't be without. Three 4" pots in a 13" metal cachepot.
The Cyclamen genus, in the Primrose family (Primulaceae), consists of 20-24 species of tuberous perennial plants originating in alpine woodlands, damp woods, or dry sandy areas around the Mediterranean, to Iran and Somalia. Elegant nodding flowers with 5 reflexed petals are white or shades between pink and red; leaves are heart-shaped or rounded. Almost all Cyclamens, whether hardy or tender, go dormant in summer. Cultivars of tropical Cyclamen persicum, with larger flowers than most species, bloom indoors in winter and early spring above ornately patterned leaves.
