The pedal impact problem

Most cross trainers give you a footplate, not real cushioning

A cross trainer's low impact reputation depends on what's actually under the foot. Most models rely on a flat, rigid footplate that still transmits a fair amount of stride shock straight up through the knees and hips, especially across a long HIIT class or a busy commercial floor running all day.

The Star Trac 8 Series Cross Trainer builds in genuine Soft Trac shock-absorbing pedals, cushioning every stride rather than just passing the impact through. A rear-approach open-step frame keeps mounting and dismounting safe from any angle, and articulating movement arms convert the motion into a real total-body workout rather than lower-body-only cardio.

An 11 inch step-up height keeps entry accessible for rehab clients and general members alike, while a powder-coated steel frame and 350 pound user weight capacity are built to hold up under daily commercial use.

What independent reviewers say

A commendable build for the discerning buyer

"The Star Trac 8 Series Cross Trainer is a solid investment for both commercial and residential consumers and comes packed with a delightful amount of commendable elements for the discerning purchaser."

Independent Cardio Equipment Review

Star Trac's own lineup makes the tradeoffs clear. The 6CT actually offers a longer 20 inch stride at a lower price, though it skips Soft Trac cushioning entirely. The S Series SCTx has Soft Trac pedals too, but only on a self-generating LED console with no touchscreen, NFC pairing, or wireless charging. The 8CT is the only Star Trac cross trainer that pairs genuine pedal cushioning with the full OpenHub touchscreen platform, a combination worth the step up for facilities that want both comfort and connected technology in one machine.

Best for

Commercial gyms, boutique studios, and rehab facilities that want shock-absorbing pedal comfort paired with a full connected touchscreen console.
