Treat Spartan like a flowering shrub that just happens to produce dessert, and plant it in a gentle drift with a clean mulch line underneath, then layer low evergreens or soft perennials in front so the blueberries become a lush green backdrop in summer and a glowing orange-red accent in fall; if you add a second variety nearby for cross-pollination, place it close enough that bees can bounce between plants easily, and you’ll be rewarded with a harvest that feels a little bit like winning.
