Description
- Handcrafted Quality: Handwoven from rattan reed over a solid wood bottom, with a hardwood rim, a leather handle riveted through the weave on each side and two wooden runner feet underneath, by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the weaver who made it.
- The Between-The-Chairs Size: 15 x 8 inches at the rim and 14 1/2 inches tall on its feet: magazines and a few books stand upright without flopping, and it slips between a recliner and a side table.
- Up On Its Feet: Two wooden runners under the bottom, just under two inches tall and screwed on from the inside, lift the basket off the floor so it reads as furniture beside a chair and the bottom stays off the rug.
- Measures: 15" x 8" x 14 1/2" tall. Contents not included.
- Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on.
- Optional Extras: A lift-off solid wood lid made for this basket and an engraved solid brass plate are each optional and sold right on this page. The basket ships open and is complete as it is.
- American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.
The basket that keeps the reading pile upright. "tall enough that the magazines don't flop over and look unsightly or messy," Cathy wrote in 2021. Carissa loads hers with files, and it is "not bending or tipping over at all." Christine found it "Beautifully put together with sturdy legs and a solid bottom and sides."
It is the slim one on purpose. "I don't have a lot of space, so this slim basket is perfect!" Amy wrote in 2025. Jeanne has hers "between my recliner and coffee table" holding a work tablet and notebooks; Donna's sits "between my husband's recliner and side table." A standard magazine stands on its long edge with room to spare; it also serves as a wastebasket beside a desk. If you need it wider, the Throw Blanket Basket at 22 x 17 is the next step up in the family.
The sizes are the outside of the rim with the feet included. The lift-off lid made for it is on this page, and for a basket already home it has its own page. For something lower that slides under a coffee table, the Underbed Storage Basket is 5 1/2 inches tall; for a two-tier piece that stands beside the chair, the Chairside Crafting Hub. The rest of the family is on the living room baskets page.
An Old Order Amish family weaves it by hand on the Iowa-Missouri border, in the same community as the rest of our living room baskets, and the weaver signs the bottom before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free, and rush delivery is offered at checkout when a birthday or Christmas is close. It ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who wove it. Like every basket we sell, it carries our lifetime guarantee, and returns are no questions asked.
