Description

Compared to the citrus-pepper original, this Sauvage Eau de Parfum edition trades brightness for spice almost entirely. Nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom and grapefruit open it warm and immediate, a considerably more intense start than the classic Sauvage's Calabrian bergamot. Lavender alone fills the middle, aromatic against all that spice. Licorice, sandalwood, amber, patchouli and Haitian vetiver close out a dense, resinous drydown. Labeled with the same Sauvage Cologne name as its siblings, this Eau de Parfum was built by Christian Dior for evening and cold weather exclusively, where the classic's lighter, more universal register would feel out of place. Licorice in the base is the ingredient most responsible for this edition's darker, more grown-up character, adding a bittersweet, anise-adjacent depth that has no direct equivalent anywhere in the original Eau de Toilette's structure. Set beside its better-known sibling, the difference is stark: where the original stays fresh and spicy throughout its wear, this one commits fully to warmth from the first spray onward, never once reaching back for that citrus brightness, still the pick within the Sauvage lineup best suited to a formal winter dinner rather than a casual daytime errand, best applied sparingly given how far its spice travels in a warm room.
