Smaller gardens need some bold plants to bring contrast. Balkan sage has large, dark green rumpled rosettes of substantial leaves. In summer tall, strong stems emerge, dripping with lavender-blue flowers, each with a brush of white. It grows well in shadier areas, a big bonus, and is easy to grow and reliably hardy.
