Plant Rappahannock Pawpaw with at least one other pawpaw variety nearby and design the space like a small native orchard grove, using a generous mulch ring beneath the trees and low woodland-style companions around the edges; the mulch helps protect the root zone, the understory softens the bold foliage, and the second pawpaw gives pollination a much better shot, because even the most charming fruit tree needs a good wingman.
