About This Style

Vintage rugs are defined by an aesthetic that evokes the passage of time, often incorporating faded tones and abrash-like colour variations. Floral motifs in these pieces range from intricate, dense botanical fields to mid-century repeats, reflecting traditional Ottoman design vocabulary. Many such rugs feature a distressed character resulting from decades of use or intentional overdyeing, a process where a base rug is submerged in a saturated colour bath to reveal ghost-patterns of the original design beneath the wash.

Where It Works

The flatwoven construction of this rug allows it to lie flush against the floor, making it highly effective for high-traffic areas such as hallways, entryways, and kitchens. Its low-profile nature is ideal for layering over larger carpets or placement in rooms with underfloor heating.
