Protea - Vintage Medallion Rug - 5'3 X 8'11

This hand-woven, one-of-a-kind piece embodies Anatolian heritage through its flatwoven construction, faded patina, abrash detail, and overdyed finish. Featuring a low-pile, no-shed, high-traffic durable surface, it is layering-friendly, underfloor-heating safe, and offers a reversible weave, soft-touch distressed character, ghost-pattern, 70s craftsmanship, cotton-polyester blend, single-piece artisanal quality, and sun-bleached tones.

About This Style

Vintage rugs are designed to evoke an aged aesthetic, often featuring faded tones, abrash colour variation, and distressed surface treatments. These pieces frequently incorporate a central medallion motif—a hallmark of Anatolian design—rendered in geometric or stylised forms, alongside intricate floral patterns derived from botanical forms like vines and blossoms. Distressing is achieved through decades of use or intentional overdying, a process where the rug is submerged in a single-colour bath to reveal ghost traces of the original pattern beneath.

Where It Works

The flatweave construction allows this rug to lie perfectly flush against the floor, making it ideal for high-traffic areas such as hallways, entryways, and kitchens. Its thin profile is compatible with underfloor heating systems and serves as an effective base for layering in larger rooms.
