Description
Pringle’s Dwarf Podocarpus is a compact selection of podocarpus with dense, dark-green foliage and a naturally rounded form. Unlike taller podocarpus commonly used for large screens, this slow-growing cultivar stays in a more manageable 3–5-foot range at maturity.
Its evergreen foliage and compact scale make it useful where year-round structure is wanted without the height of a larger screening shrub. Use it around foundations, along borders, as a low hedge, or as an evergreen accent in the landscape. It can also be grown in a large container with good drainage.
Safety note: Do not eat the seeds or other plant parts. Podocarpus is toxic to dogs, cats and horses.
How to Use Pringle’s Dwarf Podocarpus
Pringle’s Dwarf Podocarpus works well in foundation beds, mixed borders and other areas where a compact evergreen shrub can provide structure throughout the year. Its rounded habit also makes it useful as a repeated accent or as a low hedge along a walkway, bed or property boundary.
Because it can reach 3–5 feet tall and wide, allow enough room for its mature spread when planting near windows, walkways and neighboring shrubs.
For container planting, choose a large container with drainage holes and enough room for the root system to develop.
