Description
DESCRIPTION:
Nearly 90 percent of the diamond weight on this ring is in a single stone. The center diamond weighs 4.9 carats and is graded H to I in color and VS2 to SI1 in clarity. The round cut side stones add only 0.63 carats, for a total diamond weight of 5.53 carats across the ring.
That balance is a choice. Rings at this total weight more often spread it across a halo and a fully set band, which buys coverage across the finger; this one keeps it in the middle, which buys presence in one place. The frame measures 9.3 mm, a third of an inch, in width.
The mounting is platinum and weighs 14.5 grams, heavy even for the metal. Platinum is denser than gold, so the same design comes out with more material in the shank and in the prongs, and prongs with that much metal behind them hold a large stone more securely over years of daily wear. H to I is the near colorless range, showing at most a hint of warmth against white metal, and VS2 to SI1 means no inclusions are visible to the naked eye.
