DESCRIPTION:

A fancy yellow diamond is the center of this platinum ring, pear shaped and weighing 2.04 carats at VVS2 to VS1 clarity. Fancy color is graded on its own scale rather than the D to Z range used for white diamonds, so a yellow stone is valued for the strength and evenness of its color. Platinum is the deliberate choice around it: a white metal gives a yellow diamond nothing to borrow from, so the color you see is the color the stone actually has.

The side design runs in two layers. Small round cut diamonds are pave set halfway across the band for 0.73 carats, and two further pear shaped stones sit one on each side of the center for an additional 0.60 carats. Repeating the pear outline at the shoulders echoes the center instead of interrupting it. Total diamond weight is 3.37 carats and the band weighs approximately 8.3 grams in platinum. Width across the setting is 13 mm.

VVS2 to VS1 is a high clarity band, well above the point where anything becomes visible to the naked eye. Platinum is denser than gold, so the same design comes out heavier in the hand and the prongs keep their grip longer under daily wear. It also stays white permanently, with no rhodium plating to redo.
