Platinum Diamond Engagement Ring 2.88 Ctw

Nothing about the shape of this ring is unusual, and that is the point of it: a 2.00 carat round brilliant, GIA certified at H color and SI1 clarity, set in platinum with brilliant round cut side stones adding 0.88 carats. Total diamond weight is 2.88 carats. The money here went into the specification rather than into the styling.

The frame measures 7 mm, a quarter of an inch, in width and the mounting weighs 11 grams. That is a great deal of metal for a ring of those dimensions, and it is what platinum does: at identical measurements it comes out heavier than gold, and the extra density means prongs that flex less and wear down more slowly. The accent stones are F to H in color and VS1 to VS2 in clarity.

H color is near colorless and SI1 means inclusions are not visible to the naked eye. Together those two grades describe a stone that looks white and clean in the hand without paying for distinctions only a loupe can find. Platinum also keeps its white color permanently, where white gold needs its rhodium plating redone every few years. Made at Avianne and Co in New York City's Diamond District.
