Not A Perfume Perfume

Description
The name is a dare, and the ingredient list backs it up completely: Not A Perfume Perfume is built entirely on cetalox, one synthetic molecule used at every single stage. Cetalox opens it, cetalox fills the middle, cetalox closes it out, an unprecedented structure for a fragrance sold at retail. The molecule itself reads ambery and musky, close to skin, with almost none of the sharpness a typical top note would bring. Juliette Has A Gun built this Not A Perfume Eau de Parfum around the idea of hypoallergenic minimalism, marketed specifically to people who find conventional perfumes irritating or overwhelming. Cetalox is more commonly used as a supporting base note in other fragrances, prized for the way it amplifies whatever it's blended with, so using it alone as the entire composition is something close to an experiment in what a "raw material" smells like without any surrounding architecture at all. Classed loosely as a musk amber, it suits daytime and evening equally, since there's no structural shift from opening to close to time around an occasion. Few releases at mainstream fragrance counters have been this boldly experimental, still discussed in fragrance communities as an actual conceptual outlier rather than a passing novelty.
