What Gel Can Be Used for This Building Tip Mold?
For the best results, use a thick, self-supporting nail-building product that can hold its shape inside the dual form before curing.
Recommended Products
Dynamic Nail Supply HEMA-Free Builder Gel Pod – Hard Gel for Building or Sculpting Nail Extensions: The thicker hard-gel consistency provides better control when building the extension, apex, and sidewalls inside the dual form.
Dynamic Poly Gel for Building or Sculpting Nails: Poly Gel is highly recommended for dual-form application because its thick consistency stays where you place it, allowing you to shape and control the product before curing.
What Products Are Not Recommended?
Soft, thin, or highly flexible gels are generally not recommended for building full dual-form extensions.
This includes products such as:
- Rubber Base Gel
- Thin Soft Builder Gel
- Many Builder Gels in a Bottle
- Thin Base Gels
These formulas may be too runny or too flexible for this type of sculpted extension. They can move inside the form before curing and may not provide enough structure for longer extensions.
For best results, choose a product specifically formulated for building or sculpting nail extensions.
How to Use
1. Prep the Natural Nail
Push back the cuticles and remove any non-living tissue from the nail plate.
Lightly buff away the natural shine, then thoroughly remove dust and surface oils.
Apply dehydrator and primer according to the requirements of your nail system.
Apply a thin layer of compatible base coat if required and cure according to the product instructions.
2. Select the Correct Dual Form
Choose your desired shape and select a size that completely covers the natural nail from sidewall to sidewall. Pick a dual form that is roughly 1 to 2 mm wider than your natural nail bed.The form should sit comfortably over the nail without squeezing the sidewalls. If you are between sizes, choose the slightly larger size and adjust the sidewalls if necessary.
3. Apply the Building Product
Place a small amount of Dynamic Poly Gel or Hard Builder Gel inside the dual form.
For Poly Gel, use a brush lightly moistened with compatible slip solution or alcohol to gently pat and smooth the product.
Keep the product:
- Thin around the cuticle
- Thin along the sidewalls
- Slightly thicker through the stress area
- Properly structured through the apex
Avoid making the free edge unnecessarily thick.
4. Apply the Dual Form
Position the form close to the cuticle area at approximately a 45° angle.
Slowly lower and press the form onto the natural nail so the product spreads evenly toward the free edge.
Do not press excessively, as this can push too much product out of the form.
Remove any excess gel from the cuticle, sidewalls, or surrounding skin before curing.
Check underneath the extension and smooth away excess product if necessary.
5. Flash Cure & Full Cure
Flash cure the extension while holding the dual form securely in position if needed.
Then complete the full cure under a compatible UV/LED nail lamp according to the curing instructions for the building gel being used.
6. Remove the Dual Form
Once the product is completely cured, gently squeeze or flex the sides of the dual form.
Carefully wiggle the form until it releases from the hardened nail extension.
Do not force the mold off.
7. Refine & Finish
Refine the:
- Cuticle area
- Sidewalls
- Free edge
- Final shape
Remove all filing dust.
Apply your desired gel color, nail art, chrome, French design, or top coat and cure according to the product instructions.
Professional Tips
Do not overload the dual form with product. Too much gel can cause flooding around the cuticle, excessive thickness underneath the extension, or unnecessary filing after curing.
Always check the form from the front, side, and underneath before curing. This helps ensure that the extension is straight, the apex is properly positioned, and the underside is smooth.
For longer shapes such as Stiletto, Russian Almond, Long Square, or Coffin, proper apex and stress-area structure are especially important.

FAQs
Q: Are these nail tips that stay on the nail?
No. These are dual nail forms or nail-building molds. The nail-building product is placed inside the form, applied to the natural nail, cured, and then the plastic form is removed. The cured gel extension remains on the nail.
Q: What products work best with these dual forms?
We recommend Dynamic Nail Supply HEMA-Free Builder Gel Pod – Hard Gel or Dynamic Poly Gel because both are designed for building and sculpting nail extensions.
Q: Can I use Rubber Base Gel?
Rubber Base Gel is not recommended for building full-length dual-form extensions. It is generally softer and more flexible than a sculpting hard gel or Poly Gel and may not provide the structure needed for longer extensions.
Q: Can I use Builder Gel in a Bottle?
Many bottled builder gels are thinner and more flexible than traditional sculpting hard gels. For this type of dual-form application, we recommend a thicker builder gel formulated specifically for sculpting extensions instead.
Q: Why does my gel squeeze out around the cuticle?
You may be using too much product or pressing the dual form too firmly. Use less product near the cuticle area and lower the form gently rather than pressing it flat with excessive pressure.
Q: How do I prevent air bubbles?
Apply the form gradually rather than placing it straight down onto the nail. Make sure the product is evenly distributed inside the form and avoid trapping air between the gel and natural nail.
Q: How long should I cure the extension?
Cure time depends on the specific gel and lamp being used. Always follow the curing instructions provided with your Dynamic Builder Gel or Poly Gel system rather than relying on one universal curing time.
Q: Do I need to file the nail after removing the form?
Some refinement is usually recommended around the cuticle, sidewalls, and free edge. However, proper product placement inside the dual form can significantly reduce the amount of filing required.
Q: Can beginners use these forms?
Yes, but dual forms require some practice with product amount, placement, pressure, and apex construction. Beginners may find Poly Gel particularly easy to control because it does not move as quickly as thinner gel formulas.
Please Note
Dual forms are reusable molds for building nail extensions. They are removed after the nail-building product has fully cured and are not traditional press-on or full-cover nail tips.
Actual form colors, transparency, shape details, and appearance may vary slightly due to lighting, photography, monitor settings, and manufacturing batches.
