Description
Minnie Royal offers genuine sweet-cherry character in mild-winter regions where many traditional cultivars do not receive enough chill. Its early red fruit has firm, juicy flesh and a bright sweetness that is particularly enjoyable fresh from the tree. The crop also works well in simple desserts and preserves. White spring blossoms add ornamental value before the cherries develop, making this variety both a productive orchard tree and a seasonal focal point.
Set the bare-root, semi-dwarf tree in full sun and well-drained soil. On Maxma 14 rootstock, it develops a manageable canopy suited to home-orchard pruning, netting, and picking. Train a balanced framework with good light penetration, water deeply while roots establish, and maintain steady moisture as fruit enlarges. Protect the ripening crop from birds, and avoid overhead irrigation near harvest when rain or surface moisture could affect cherry quality.
Minnie Royal is not self-fruitful. A recommended partner is Royal Lee Cherry for dependable cross-pollination. Plant the two trees close enough for bees to travel readily between their overlapping flowers. This recommended pairing is especially useful for gardeners designing a compact, low-chill cherry planting.
