Description
- Handcrafted Quality: A low rectangle of rattan reed handwoven over a wood bottom with a wrapped rim and a leather loop handle riveted through the weave at each end, by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the weaver who made it.
- Woven For The 9 x 13: 17 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches outside and 3 inches tall, about 17 x 11 inside. A 9 x 13 baking dish sets down into it and rests its built-in handles on the rim. It was woven in 2015 for handled glass 9 x 13 dishes, after a customer sent us photos of hers.
- Room For A Big Dish: It carries a dish just under 17 inches long and 11 inches wide, measured at its widest point, handles included.
- Measures: 17 1/2" x 11 1/2" x 3" tall. Dish not included.
- Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on, and on the plain finish the stain takes to each piece of wood in its own way.
- Optional Extras: A hand-sewn cloth liner made for it, in cream, wine, blue or green, is optional and sold right on this page; when you order one, the helpers fit it on the basket before packing. An engraved solid brass plate and protective feet are optional too.
- American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.
A. H., in 2021: "Any of my baking dishes fit into it and it is very sturdy." Eric: "It works very, very well for our 9x13 dishes. The addition insert is excellent." Tina, in 2025: "This is a great size. It is very sturdy and I use it to carry my casseroles in." Bigger pans than the 9 x 13 go in too: Amy's "it fits my 11x15 glass casserole pan perfectly!", Margaret's "fit my 10 x 15 dishes well", and Donna's "Easily holds my large glass pan with handles."
JoAnn, in 2025: "I have 4 now and utilize them for serving all the time." Christine takes hers to "family gatherings and church suppers"; Telle calls it an "easy way to enhance the food presentation on the buffet table". Jean: "The size and the liner make carrying my dishes easy and makes them look good, too." David: "The cloth liner and brass name plate are lovely finishing touches." Between potlucks, William keeps his full: "I store a bunch of things in it under my coffee table". Darlene's went out as "a special baby shower gift".
It was first sold as the Extra Large Casserole Carrier, and some search results still call it that. The leather loops keep your hands off the hot glass from the oven to the table, and the basket doubles as the trivet when it gets there; the Amish families wrap a towel around the dish inside it to hold the heat on the way, and it is woven with room for that. The sizes are outside measurements. For pies, the carriers on the pie carriers page stack one, two or three under a lid; the rest of the kitchen pieces, the lazy susans, the napkin basket and the recipe box, are on the kitchen baskets page.
An Old Order Amish family weaves it by hand on the Iowa-Missouri border, in the same community as the rest of our kitchen baskets, and the weaver signs the bottom before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free, and rush delivery is offered at checkout when a birthday or Christmas is close. It ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who wove it. Like every basket we sell, it carries our lifetime guarantee, and returns are no questions asked.
