Description
If you like your dahlias with a little fire, Japlou Decorative Dahlia is hard to beat. Each bloom is a two-tone marvel, with warm golden-orange on the face of the petals and a deeper orange-red reverse. As the narrow petals curl and twist, flashes of both colors show at once, so the whole flower seems to glow from within, like embers catching the evening light.
The form is what makes Japlou truly distinctive. Rather than lying flat, the slender, quilled petals roll inward and twist slightly at the tips, giving each fully double bloom a spiky, almost starburst texture that stands apart from rounder, more traditional dahlias. Held on strong stems above lush green foliage, the flowers bring energy and movement to a border and pair wonderfully with bronze grasses, deep purple foliage, and other late-season hot colors.
Japlou is also a prolific bloomer and a superb cut flower. Plants keep producing from midsummer until frost, and the more you cut, the more they give. A handful of stems adds instant warmth and texture to a bouquet, whether mixed with rusts and burgundies for an autumnal look or set against cool blues for high contrast.
