Description
- Handcrafted Quality: Rattan reed handwoven over a solid wood bottom with a wrapped rim, a lift-off hardwood lid with a wood knob, and two bent wood swing handles on rivets, one at each end, by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the weaver who made it.
- Built For The Potluck: 20 x 12 inches at the rim and 12 inches tall: the casserole, the rolls, the pie and the serving spoons for a fellowship meal, a reunion or a Sunday at the park. The legged wood serving board comes with it: it stands inside as a shelf so the dishes ride underneath and the bread on top, and it comes out to be the serving board on the table.
- Two Handles, One Lid: The two swing handles carry it level between two people or in one hand at the center, and they swing down to the sides when it is set on the table. The lid lifts off, and it stays closed on its own.
- Measures: 20" x 12" x 12" tall. The serving board is included; contents are not.
- Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on, and on the plain finish the stain takes to each piece of wood in its own way.
- Optional Extras: A picnic serving set for 2 or 4 (9 inch melamine plates, 12 ounce tumblers and stainless flatware fitted to the lid before the basket ships), a wine and cheese serving set, a hand-sewn cloth liner in cream, wine, blue or green, an engraved solid brass plate and protective feet are each optional and sold right on this page. The basket ships unlined and empty, and is complete without them.
- American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.
The serving board on four short legs in the photos is included, with nothing extra to buy. It is the basket for the family that carries dinner to church more often than to the park: the board doubles as the trivet and the bread board when the lid comes off.
The sizes are outside measurements. For the same size with leather straps and serving sets up to six, the Large Picnic Basket; for the fixed-handle basket with the hinged lid, the Large Vintage. All the sizes are on the picnic baskets page.
An Old Order Amish family weaves it by hand on the Iowa-Missouri border, in the same community as the rest of our picnic baskets, and the weaver signs the bottom before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free, and rush delivery is offered at checkout when a birthday or Christmas is close. It ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who wove it. Like every basket we sell, it carries our lifetime guarantee, and returns are no questions asked.
