HALO Select™ Halosulfuron Herbicide for Nutsedge and Kyllinga Control

Take control of troublesome sedges with HALO Select™ Halosulfuron Herbicide. This selective, post-emergent herbicide contains 5% halosulfuron-methyl and is formulated to control yellow nutsedge, purple nutsedge, kyllinga, and other labeled weeds without injuring approved turfgrass when applied according to label directions.

HALO Select is a generic alternative to SedgeHammer® and comes in a water-dispersible granule formulation. The dry granules are mixed with water and applied with a pump sprayer, battery sprayer, or backpack sprayer. HALO Select works slowly, but it provides effective sedge control with visible results often taking up to 21 days.

How HALO Select Works

HALO Select is absorbed by actively growing sedges and other susceptible weeds after post-emergent application. It gradually interferes with weed growth, allowing the targeted sedge to decline over time while remaining selective to approved turfgrass.

Because HALO Select works gradually, full results may take up to 21 days, especially during cooler conditions. Avoid reapplying too soon, and always follow the product label for retreatment timing and application restrictions.

Approved Turf Types

HALO Select can be used on the following labeled cool-season and warm-season turfgrasses: 

• Cool-Season Lawns: Kentucky bluegrass, Turf-Type Tall Fescue (all fescues), Ryegrass
  
• Warm-Season Lawns: Bermuda, Zoysia, Bahia, St. Augustine, Centipede, Zoysia

Size Options and Coverage

Coverage is based on the application rate of 0.03 oz (1 scoop) per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft.

• 1.33 oz bottle: Covers approximately 44,300 sq. ft. or 1 acre at the recommended rate 
  

Application Information

• Apply HALO Select as a post-emergent treatment when nutsedge, kyllinga, or other labeled weeds are actively growing.
  
• Mix one level scoop with 1 gallon of water and apply evenly as a spot spray or blanket spray, depending on the size of the affected area. 
  
• For best results, mix HALO Select™ with a non-ionic surfactant at a rate of 1–2 oz per 1,000 sq. ft., added to each gallon of spray solution, according to the product label.
  
• Use a battery or pump sprayer for accurate application.
  
• Do not apply with a quart hose-end sprayer or Ortho Dial N Spray.
  
• Do not water the product in; allow the spray to remain on the foliage.
  
• Keep people and pets off treated areas until the spray solution has dried.
  
• Allow up to 21 days for full results.
  
• Always read and follow the current product label for application rates, weed targets, retreatment intervals, and safety requirements.
