Gusto™ Orange Zest Blanket Flower

Gusto™ Orange Zest Blanket Flower (Gaillardia hybrida 'Orange Zest') covers a low, rounded mound with bright orange daisy flowers from late spring into fall. It grows about 14 inches tall and 16 to 18 inches wide and is hardy in zones 4-9.

Gusto Orange Zest stands apart for how little it asks. New flowers open above the old ones, so the plant keeps a fresh face without deadheading, and it often blooms the first summer it goes in the ground. The compact, well-branched habit stays tidy instead of sprawling open in midsummer the way older blanket flowers can.

Use it along the front of a sunny border, in a gravel or rock garden, on a dry slope or in a patio container. The warm orange color pairs well with blue salvia, Russian sage and ornamental grasses, and bees and butterflies work the flowers from first bloom to last.

Blanket flower is built for sun and sharp drainage. Sandy or gravelly soil suits it well, while heavy clay that stays wet over winter is the fastest way to lose it. Hold back on fertilizer, which pushes leaves over flowers. In early spring, cut last year's growth back to about 3 inches to make room for the new shoots.

Order Gusto™ Orange Zest Blanket Flower and add months of bright orange color to your hottest, driest beds.
