Golden Mop False Cypress

Gold Mop Cypress brings a soft sweep of golden color to the landscape, with fine, thread-like foliage that drapes and spills like a fountain of sunlight. This compact evergreen conifer adds year-round brightness to foundation beds, borders, rock gardens, containers, and mixed shrub plantings without needing constant pruning.

Also known as Gold Mop False Cypress, Golden Mop Cypress, or Gold Mop Chamaecyparis, this colorful shrub is botanically known as Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Gold Mop’. Its graceful, mop-like foliage holds a rich yellow-green tone through the seasons, making it especially useful where you want evergreen structure with more personality than a standard green shrub.

The naturally rounded, low-growing habit makes Gold Mop Cypress easy to use in real home landscapes. Plant it near walkways, in front of taller evergreens, along a sunny foundation, beside boulders, or in a large container where its golden foliage can brighten the space all year. It also works beautifully as a low hedge, mass planting, accent shrub, or textural contrast in mixed garden beds.

This gold mop cypress shrub matures slowly, reaching approximately 3–5 feet tall and wide over time, depending on climate and growing conditions. Its steady growth and compact shape make it a strong choice for gardeners who want color, texture, and structure without a high-maintenance pruning routine.

Use Gold Mop Cypress where the garden needs warmth, contrast, and dependable evergreen color. Its golden foliage pairs beautifully with blue junipers, burgundy loropetalum, deep green hollies, red nandinas, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs.
