Description

For a statement-making attraction in the spring garden, the vertical spires of Fritillaria persica 'Ivory Bells' do very nicely. Tall stems are crowned with racemes of bell-shaped blossoms in a distinctive shade of ivory suffused with pale green. They add splendid form and color to the early season border and are a favorite of floral designers.

Fritillaria, a genus with over 100 species, has a peculiar appeal and distinction that reside in the shapes and unusual shades of their flowers. These downward-facing blossoms are bell-like, saucer-like, or tubular, some wearing leafy tufts (bracts); they create a spectacular show in spring or early summer. The characteristic skunky odor is a benefit because it deters deer. Although the bulbs are fragile, the species we sell perform well in rich, well-drained borders and rock gardens.
