Fire and marriage make an unusual pairing, but that's the concept Calvin Klein built into this Eternity flanker three decades after the original. Mandarin orange alone opens this Eternity Flame Eau de Parfum, bright and immediate. Sweet pea alone fills the middle, delicate and slightly green. Labdanum closes it out solo, warm and resinous, the note supplying the "flame" the name promises. Where the original Eternity crowds its structure with eight or nine notes per stage, this edition strips everything down to one apiece, betting on clarity rather than density. Labdanum, an amber-resinous extract from a Mediterranean rockrose, is doing considerably more conceptual work than its single mention suggests, lending actual warmth and smoke to what would otherwise be a fairly delicate, floral-driven composition. Labeled Eternity Flame Perfume, this Eau de Parfum is classed as floral amber and built for evening wear, the resinous labdanum base doing most of the warming work by itself. For a fragrance this pared back, the shift from citrus brightness to floral sweetness to resinous heat still reads as a complete arc rather than three unrelated ideas placed side by side, and it remains a favorite pick for anyone who finds the original Eternity's dense floral heart too much for a single evening's wear.
