Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter'

Eryngium planum ‘Blue Glitter’ has long-lasting, globular blooms suffused with metallic violet-blue that shine atop stiff purple-blue stems. With smaller flower heads, and more floriferous than most Sea Hollies, ‘Blue Glitter’ is a unique addition to a sunny garden spot. We love it in our borders as much as the bees and beneficial insects do. It also makes an excellent fresh or dried cut flower.

This highly distinctive genus offers shapes and shades unlike anything else, and is valued for that reason. A thistle-like plant, Sea Holly stands in stark contrast to softer garden textures. From low rosettes, Eryngium send up branching stems crowned with domed flower heads in shades of blue. The stiff and spiny leaves that lie below are likewise colored, as are the stems. Most species thrive in full sun and well-drained soil.
