Description

The Bergs Kobenhavner Low Pot & Saucer is a favorite for growing herbs and creating displays of succulents or forced bulbs. The pot is wider than it is tall, and the porosity of the premium terracotta facilitates optimal air exchange and drainage that keeps plants healthy. Use these containers indoors and out, then hand them down to the next generation of gardeners.

Københavner pots are attractive and durable with the upper rim artfully detailed in a scallop pattern. A high-sided saucer completes the singular look. The design was inspired by vessels made in 1860 for the Royal Danish Palace of Fredensborg. It was among the first produced by Denmark’s Bergs Potter, and it remains one of the company’s most popular. The design’s royal heritage has given these vessels the nickname “Castle Pot” (although, not to confuse things, the Danish word “Københavner” translates to “Copenhagener”).

Today, these versatile containers are handcrafted by Bergs Potter in a small village in Italy using premium terracotta clay that has ideal porosity for promoting plant health. The raw (unglazed) terracotta pots change color when watered, an indication that the vessel is “breathing,” or allowing the exchange of air and moisture that helps plants thrive. The saucers of the raw terracotta pots are coated with a subtle silicone finish, making them waterproof while preventing mold. The patina of the pot will change with its contents and the level of moisture, and it is enhanced by age.
