Description
Arabian Mate is a spicy, woody, fruity scent created for Men and Women in 2026 by perfumer Christine Hassan.
Review
This scent is spicy, rich and intense. It opens with a blast of Spices and Citrus that almost surprises the senses, temporarily softening into the blend of Guaiacwood, Oud and Patchouli. You catch a faint hint of the flowers, but only fleetingly. The sweeter notes in the base may temper the intensity of the richer notes, but not by much. It remains intense and woody with the Spices and Citruses giving the woody essences the aroma of an ancient, possibly haunted, tree deep in the woods. The Spiced Pear note from the opening does lend a hint of a Pear essence as things begin to dry down, and it interestingly feels kind of like canned Pear juice was spilled on top of a huge, freshly fallen, rotting, tree in the woods. As the Pear essence settles in, you can tell that the Vanilla is helping to boost this sweetness above the woods. Even then, things don’t begin to mellow out until much further into the dry down. Later down the road, the intensity dies down, and things become sweeter, but the woody essence remains underneath. This is definitely not a scent for the faint of heart or for the novice of woody fragrances. This is for those who love the darker, woodier scents, and those who are willing to wait as the composition evolves and changes over the course of a few hours on the skin. Over time it does mellow out, becoming more sweet, but it takes its time. It is truly a complex and unique fragrance. Its intensity makes it a scent worth thinking about when and where you’ll wear it. It’s not necessarily casual, and might be too much for an office setting or enclosed space, at least at first, but will definitely work anytime you want to make an impression. It feels best suited for evening activities; date night, drinks out with friends, holiday parties, Winter weddings, etc. Its depth and warmth make it very well suited for the Fall and Winter when the weather is colder, and the early Spring when there’s still a chill in the air. It almost feels like Tom Ford Oud Wood was blended with Parfums de Marly Safanad. TRY THIS SAMPLE AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!
Inspiration
Arabian Mate honors the legacy of fragrance history; from ancient times when people would crush up raw ingredients to make fragrant oils, to today where compositions have limitless possibilities.
In Chess, the Arabian Mate is a pattern where a Rook and a Knight work together to trap the opposing King in the corner of the board.
Notes
This scent opens with Bergamot and Lemon brightening, but also intensifying, the spicy tones of Cardamom and Spiced Pear. These notes temporarily fade into the density of Guaiacwood, Oud and Patchouli, with a fleeting hint of the Rose and Jasmine. Sandalwood and Golden Amber kind of mellow the darkness, but still intensify the wood tones. Vanilla Absolute and Tonka Absolute do create a hint of a sweetness later, which seems to help the Pear aspect of the Spiced Pear note come out a little more in the dry down, but everything remains intensely woody.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Cardamom, Spiced Pear
