Description
- Handcrafted Quality: Rattan reed handwoven over a wood bottom, with a hardwood rim and a solid wood lid on two black barn-style hinges, by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the weaver who made it.
- The Corner Size: 16 inches across the front, 15 inches back into the corner and 8 1/2 inches tall, with the back cut to sit against both walls: two loaves at least, or a loaf with the rolls and the bagels, on the one stretch of counter nothing else uses.
- The Hinged Lid: The lid lifts with one hand and stays open at 15 3/4 inches tall. Closed, the lid is a flat shelf, so the fruit bowl or the coffee cups can sit on top.
- Measures: 16" x 15" x 8 1/2" tall; 15 3/4" tall with the lid open. Contents not included.
- Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on, and on the plain finish the stain takes to each piece of wood in its own way.
- Optional Extras: Protective feet and an engraved solid brass plate are optional and sold right on this page.
- American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.
The bread box made for the corner. "Fits perfectly on the counter and it's beautiful," Jennifer wrote in 2026. Kay's "Fits the corner of my kitchen counter perfectly and my dog cannot open it!" Doug wrote: "In person, it is even more stunning."
On the counter it is a wide wedge, because the back is cut to meet both walls, and the front is the long straight edge you open it from. It needs 15 inches back from the front edge along each wall. A woven box breathes, and inside it the loaf stays soft in its own bag or a linen or cotton bread bag. Donna added the feet: "Love the added feet-keeps the basket bottom clean from any baking messes that end up on my countertop."
The sizes are outside measurements. For a straight run of counter, the Amish Bread Box at 17 x 9 x 8 1/2 holds a loaf and a half; the Large Rustic Bread Box at 17 x 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 adds a pull-out drawer under the lid. All of them are on the bread box page, and the baskets that bring the bread to the table are on the bread baskets page.
An Old Order Amish family weaves it by hand on the Iowa-Missouri border, in the same community as the rest of our kitchen baskets, and the weaver signs the bottom before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free, and rush delivery is offered at checkout when a birthday or Christmas is close. It ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who wove it. Like every basket we sell, it carries our lifetime guarantee, and returns are no questions asked.
