DESCRIPTION:

The center of this ring is a 3.12 carat round brilliant diamond, GIA certified at J color and SI1 clarity, set in 18K white gold. Small round cut diamonds along the sides add 1.00 carat, for a total diamond weight of 4.12 carats across the ring.

J color is the last grade in the near colorless range. Against white gold a J shows a trace of warmth in the body of the stone, and that is the honest trade being made here: color grade moves price steeply once a round passes three carats, so a J center buys noticeably more size than a G or an H would at the same spend. Clarity across the ring runs SI1 to VS1, which means nothing in these stones is visible without magnification.

The mounting is deliberately light at 5.2 grams, with the band tapering away from a head that measures 3/8 of an inch, or 10 mm, across. Less metal around the girdle leaves more of the round brilliant open to light from the sides, and a slim shank under a three carat stone keeps the proportion firmly in favor of the diamond.
