The head on this ring is a floating prong. The center diamond, a round cut stone of 2.00 carats total weight, is held on prongs that lift it clear of the diamond work beneath it, so the stone sits above the ring rather than down inside it and light reaches its pavilion from the sides as well as the top. The center stone is VS2 in clarity and carries report number 2135161682.

The frame is fully outlined in brilliant round cut diamonds graded F to G in color and VS1 to VS2 in clarity. F to G straddles the line between colorless and near colorless, which is why the surrounding stones read bright white against the 14K white gold rather than slightly gray, as lower color melee often does. VS1 to VS2 means no inclusions are visible to the naked eye anywhere on the ring.

The band measures approximately 4.5 mm in width and the mounting weighs approximately 5 grams. That is a narrow shank beneath a two carat head, and the contrast is the whole design: with so little metal competing with it, the center stone registers as larger than the same stone would in a heavier mounting.
